Is the world ready for Jackass II

November 2, 2005 - Paramount Pictures topper Gail Berman has revealed the studio's plans to make a sequel to 2002's Jackass, the film version of MTV's popular extreme stunt/gross-out reality series.

Berman discussed Paramount's hopes to boost the number of comedies in the studio's lineup and mentioned that Jackass II is currently being planned with a 2006 holiday release in mind.

Jackass: The Movie proved a huge success for the studio. It cost roughly $5 million to make and ended up with a box office gross of around $65 million, their most profitable movie of the year.

There's no word on whether or not series star Johnny Knoxville, whose legit acting career is beginning to take off, will rejoin fellow maniacs Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius and crew. We'll keep ya in the loop.

Berman says that Paramount's goal is to have "Jackass II" in theaters in the holiday season of 2006, which means the team of pranksters -- presumably including Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O and Chris Pontius -- should probably plan to start shooting by next November.

Knoxville, the public face of "Jackass," has been concentrating on his big screen acting efforts lately. The results of his labors have included a hit ("The Dukes of Hazzard") and one or two films that have suggested he may not have any box office draw ("Grand Theft Parsons," "A Dirty Shame," "Walking Tall," "Lords of Dogtown" and "Daltry Calhoun"). He'll next be seen in the winter comedy "The Ringer."

"Jackass," while technically a documentary, represents Paramount's upcoming emphasis on comedy, a direction followed by early 2006 efforts from the studio including "Last Holiday" with Queen Latifah, Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker in "Failure to Launch" and the Jack Black wrestling pic "Nacho Libre."
